Migration from Docstream to Dalux

2 July 2025

As a BIM Manager, Frank van Empel plays a key role in the successful implementation and application of BIM within organizations. With experience as a team leader, architectural design coordinator, and BIM modeller on various projects, he knows better than anyone how crucial it is that everyone working on a construction project—regardless of their company—always has access to the right software.

This project demonstrates the application of migration.

Client challenge

BMV wanted to migrate a specific project from Docstream to Dalux. If done manually, this process would have taken at least two months of full-time work for one person, with an estimated error margin of 5%. Additionally, such a manual process could have caused significant project delays.

Our solution

The main requirement for this migration was that the 240+ project users would experience no disruption and could continue working without interruption.

That’s why, after a detailed briefing, our Horizon team spent four full days on preparation and testing. The actual migration was then successfully carried out over a weekend.

The numbers

The migration involved:

  • 542 GB of project data
  • 6,278 files, including metadata
  • 19,719 document versions

Only 0.003% of all files required manual intervention.

Result

By Monday morning, 240 users across 42 companies were able to start working in the new environment without any issues.

“Horizon Internet Technologies helped us complete the entire migration within 24 hours, thanks to a well-organized preparation phase. On Monday morning, all the data was ready to continue the project in the Dalux Box. This saved BMV and all project partners a great deal of time and money. We’re now exploring how we can efficiently migrate our remaining projects together with Horizon Internet Technologies.”

What is BIM

BIM coordination (Building Information Modeling) is a process in the construction industry in which all digital building information for a project is brought together and coordinated in a single model. This model includes data on architecture, construction, installations, and planning. BIM is mandated by the Dutch government to improve efficiency and collaboration.

Horizon Internet Technologies plays a crucial role in this process by connecting various software solutions within the HORIZON VIEW platform, enabling seamless collaboration between all stakeholders, minimising errors, and optimising the construction process.
